Today at the cafe, i got rly obsessed drawing someones shoulder blade because it was unusually defined.
Studying anatomy models, books, and theory is one thing - but im still amazed how the body does it thang - the more im able to recognize/identify the muscles in action it really blows my mind still.
I think, I clocked someones anconeus also which really stood out to me - but it could have just been the triangular dip that tends to form when the brachioradialus sticks out and causes the skin to dip near the ulna elbow.

i was getting really into doing stupid things with darktable recently too
how does one rebuild a sense of creative imagination and discipline when it's been suppressed by self-loathing for most of your life?
when i was a kid, i was extremely imaginative and i drew and wrote stories and sang songs all the time. then at age 12, i got severely criticized online for some bad drawings i made, and it affected me so bad that i stopped making art altogether. now i'm 25 and i'm just starting to regain my ability to create things without shame, and my artist friends even say that my art is good, but i just can't help feeling the regret of all those years i lost.
these days i do a lot of figure drawings and still lifes and studies of artists i like, and i can see myself improving, but i feel completely useless to applying it. when i think of trying to draw my own characters, i can barely even imagine what i want them to look like, and all the shame just comes rushing back. it feels like there's this impenetrable wall around my imagination that i can't break through, and i can't remember what any of that joy and excitement and recklessness that i used to get from art felt like.
does anyone else here deal with this? how do you get through it? how do you find that kind of inspiration again and actualize it consistently without getting debilitated by the shame and doubt?
while i wouldn't say my advice is the best and i feel like it's probably more effective alongside the help of other methods rather than your only means of "becoming more creative" but
as someone with a similiar past i feel like what helped me rebuild myself creatively and get over the shame is probably starting small and expressing my creativity in more iterative and "safe" ways, like drawing fanart of characters i like as something else, or a really stupid scenario that makes sense to them, or doing doodles of weird looking creatures just because i can, i feel like a big part that handicaps people with this issue like us is the feeling that creativity is something that's inherently "big" and "unique" and noticeable but when you're still bankrupt you can't start making projects that you can't reasonably dedicate your mind to brainstorming yet as much i think, it's a muscle you need to train from my experience
>>3mv6tyhqgrd2k
i've definitely struggled with this myself, and i often feel like my works are neutered usually to the point of non-existence by some internalized shame that doesn't even surface in my conscious mind. for a while i maintained an identity of 'not being a creative person', ie STEMming the hell out as my only form of personal expression, but recently i've been trying to pick up artistry again. i don't have any answers as im still a novice and still struggle with finding a unique voice, but i think routinely creating art and engaging with your creativity is rly the only way to expand and further it, as emr also said. i think even copying or attempting to copy the art of people you look up to can be useful to this end--in any case i would say it would be a mistake to worry about being derivative, as that is the case for all art ever made
wanting your art to be good is what made me stop making art for years, and sharing it for even longer. most of my irl friends are professional artists who are all really amazing compared to me and went to college for it and shit and i help them table at cons and shit to sell now and they're all just ... so burnt out in comparison ......... they don't seem like they enjoy it at all...... it just sells well...having fun Making anything regardless of quality, just enjoying the process of creating, and talking to other people who enjoy the Process of creating (regardless of quality) is the thing that changed me back to wanting to make art again. a very 'good' art piece that doesn't convey anything might get notes online but leaves me feeling unfulfilled, pointless, unhappy. art as a tool of social expression makes me feel like the quality of the work doesn't matter at all. is there an easy way for you to work together with your artist friends (who already like your stuff) to draw for fun without the end result being the point, so that the creativity becomes a byproduct? challenges you can make up and play with each other creating? we make and decorate really godawful ugly cookies together sometimes. i go to cafe's in small groups to task people to make terrible poetry in 2 minutes and then read it out loud. we had a halloween gingerbread house decorating contest last year and someone put a AAA battery on the roof and i put slenderman on the back and then someone else set it on fire. is that art, maybe not, but it was creative! i can spend 30 hours trying to make one image look amazing and it never feels as fun as that. art is a never-ending process that will make you feel lousy as soon as you view it as a static representation of yourself and your potential, i think. you're not finished Making or Being a person ever, so there is no one narrative of your life that you missed out on by not drawing for years. i hope you can refind that joy and excitement and recklessness.

I am starting psalmus again to release art. Ill use this thread to post when there is a new release. May not be very often. For now, psalmus intends to represent artists who are marginalized, outcasted, ostracized, or are unwanted feeling by the herds.
/f - gelator is the first release, pic related.
Psalmus has presently only one new artist/release lined up which we may get put out in next few days that is a full length album.
dope. any chance of archive of old stuff?

I was thinking abt a masterlist.txt for starts
A proper archive prob has to be a team effort.
I think pretty much, most of the SLF/PSALMUS material is out there on slsk, and on fans drives... But I need help to put that together and do it right.
hi
just discovered someone uploaded my jam game to vndb to score it poorly and i was relieved to find that a sweetly invested gesture from a stranger instead of an upsetting one; but realized I should stop looking at these while I'm ahead, and that I have already gotten opinions on it from people I respect. I have always found that awareness of eyes on your art affects how you make it, and I think this has a negative impact on me if i'm aware of an audience during the creation process. How do you navigate protecting yourself from the response to your work online?
(3 replies omitted. View full thread)
its important to remind yourself that your audience is WORMS and they should be happy to get what they get
also vndb is full of chuds
It's also good to remember audience spaces are for audiences and peer spaces are for peers. It's healthier to not read reviews on vndb, Goodreads, whatever bc it's the readers' business not genuine feedback channels business
thank you for the thoughtful responses here. i am kinda new to this so it helps to hear
i think i came off more negatively than i meant to; i have a lot of leftover hurt from friend and family's disinterest in things i make, my oldest peers all stopped making things at some point and i am still surprised when they acknowledge something i've done. i think i am having trouble navigating identifying when someone is audience or peer or friend(does not intend to make things) or friend(won't read/play/do what you make) or friend. im so glad someone would Care enough to put my game on vndb in contrast to no audience at all, but at that moment realized i need to be careful where i look so i dont get in my head about it and thus distracted from continuing to make art for the purpose of self expression. i have started to think that anyone i know who is in some way trying to distract me from making and sharing art with/for other people is my enemy and acting like this has been beneficial even if it's hamfisted. and sometimes that enemy includes myself forgetting i get to choose who i care what they think

atchan!!! i am the evil warlord of block rocking beats and i summon your strongest fighters!!!
i challenge all comers new and seasoned with daw or drum machine to produce a beat 1) in one session 2) using only 8 or fewer sampler channels (do whatever with fx/mixer idc). within these parameters, you may do as you please.
here is an example for your mind... merely a taste of my true chakra... https://mega.nz/file/ZI5k1L4C#ZgKuS3EqpME3p4v-d2aaXtDlWJNDawz_i9G9Sn6E9D0
know that if timidity and cowardice prevail and none come forward, the evil warlord of block rocking beats will rule this thread for all tid... you wouldn't want that to happen, would you.. kicks the ground bashfully kicks the ground bashfully kicks the ground but i stub my toe and fall over and i cry bad like ugly cry

come on guys you have to help me fight the warlord. he's gonna eat my mom. he said he was gonna eat my mom and im anxious cause i don't know if he meant for food or like pussy. help me
another demonstration is in order... behold the awesome power of merely 8 samplers... this power could be yours... if you DARE... https://mega.nz/file/JJgAiI7T#8pPHgnq9Dsmdw2H7Md3fbAz0_5tHKU-8rARNSQf5qVA
im musically illiterate but i hope you can defeat the demon with a band of friends i believe in you
8 sampler channels exactly! had to afk a bit in the middle but i think thats still one session https://files.catbox.moe/0zg9f8.ogg
did this last night while my friends were figure drawing! <8 tracks is pretty comfortable for me but i rarely use only samplers so this was fun

no rule that says a weasel cant make a movie...
i dont have any firm plans atm cos i dont rly have any one to work with. im interested in docufiction atm (we watched close-up and nirvanna the band the show the movie this year) and id like to film a short about people who live on a superfund site. sort of "day-in-the-life" mundane interview footage intercut with bleak/empty looking polluted vistas. i got a new camera the other day so maybe ill be able to shoot some test footage for this when if/when we go up to taipei this august
for some reason (it seems like something someone would've done by now!!) no one to my knowledge has done a weirdo docuseries about their own transition so i'm tempted to fill that niche. no plans to share it anywhere public i'm mainly personally curious if it's a concept that holds up to how interesting it is in my head
i've been working on an animated short film within strict parameters (800x600, mouse drawings in ms paint only) to iron out a pipeline by which i can actually produce animation because all bespoke animation software sucks way worse to me than just assembling drawings frame by frame in vegas. im approaching it as something to complete at my leisure
I made this with my homie dana
https://youtu.be/TFQK1ITgZzg
I have been interested in making some new animated films but my ideas are too ambitious... instead of making an animated film with characters and acting i was thinking of turning this one big idea into a narrative RPG maker game
whats everyone working on lately? hows it going? tribulations and triumphs?

I've been on a printmaking adventure this week! I've been learning about how to do cyanotypes for the first time, and I've been slowly inching along learning what to do and what mistakes I've been making ... I don't love the attached file, but I think I know what I did wrong!
There are so many steps!!! It feels like I went from cooking with my normal paintings, where I can kinda just muddle together shapes I like, and it'll end up coming together one way or another as long as there's spices I like in it, to baking where of any step is a little bit off everything afterwards gets skewed further and further off course. It's interesting, just scary!
Tonight I have a couple more prints to shock blue, and then I'm gonna draw some more transparencies to expose later tomorrow... I need to buy some more paper too, and maybe some white shirts? Who knows!
