you may have noticed the site was slow recently. i was looking over the traffic and... holy shit! the bots have come...! (~_~;)
as a somewhat heavy-handed solution we are now running anubis in front of atchan, which validates requests and serves challenges for likely bots (https://anubis.techaro.lol/). this breaks some things, like no javascript mode, link previews and genuine search engine crawlers. i'm looking into a solution for this.
i will continue to monitor and tweak anubis in the next few days to see if its making a difference in speed and reliability.

bot crawlers eat like 99% of site traffic these days so nothing was lost

anubis has been disabled - site seemed consistently slower with it and caused some issues with auth and uploads as well.. not really SURE why but, hey.
