i feel like i just use the same old software u-u
obsidian has been my buddy for a year or so.. it has a lot of warts but it does get the job done. i like that all my stuff is just files so i'm not trapped in it.

i became a regular user of obsidian the past week or so - i prefer it over focuswriter now. Altho, I prob wont dip toes into the depth it has to offer - it has been nice to just let me make notes and i feel I can be a bit messy. I like hydrus/obsidian for similar reasons - guis over a designated area of yum

I've been using Allusion (https://github.com/RafaUC/Allusion), which means doing all the tagging manually... my tags definitely aren't comprehensive but going through the process has illuminated my thought processes behind saving pictures, and come up with a structured way of analysing pictures. I'm kind of proud of this so I'm taking this opportunity to talk about it.
The parent categories I use for tagging: Genre & Aesthetics, Subject matter, Medium, Layout, Reference, IP.
Genre & Aesthetics: this is the most abstract category, grouping things by iconography and semiotics associated with a particular style or feeling. Eg, "Sword & Sorcery" includes both photos of replica armors, and illustrations of fantasy
Subject Matter: particular articles that can be identified. Images with blood & gore, character design/specific costumes, animes, architecture and vehicles.
Medium: materials & context used to create the image, whether it is photography, physical paints, plastic models or screenshots from movies & shows.
Layout: compositional tools used in the image - diagrams, posters, collages, comic pages, or "Mise-en-scène"
Reference: Similar to subject matter, this category contains specific things like anatomy and "for study" images
IP: tags for source works being referenced
Often I'll try and trawl my library and tag things instead of wasting time on less productive pastimes... but it is very time consuming, and I'm constantly revising the way I tag things anyway, meaning I have to go over the same stuff and revise it...

its a unique challenge since tagging is likely taste driven on some level - you have to make it fit you like a glove working locally - ive been mostly thinking abt it like this - if I add something to my 'library' i just need to tag it in a way that A) lets me quickly bring up cleanly and B) be able to review the set if it was from a set - but recently, since im going thru the labor of adding lots of shit - im starting to question if I really need all the shit - so im starting to filter more strictly what I let in - so becomes more scrutinized curation to inform my art practice. Im also using this local borrur tagging system just to archive my own art cuz i am so fucking bad at that since forever.
