Do you watch VTubers? If so, who’s your favorite and why?
I love both the act of playing pretend and anime girls, but I just don't think mainstream VTubers are for me. However, I’d love to become familiar with who you all watch and I'm open to changing my mind!

forever 14 years old and is quite popular among those who love yami kawaii aesthetics

besides the stated ones (love hatoba tsugu) i liked pikamee (rip) and a handful of early hololives. korone and okayu is otp. i like to imagine they are romantic off camera.
i never really watched vtubers, i dont have time to tune in to hours of streams. i think as time has gone on the phenomenon has gotten less interesting for me. everyone is a vtuber now! and many dont make a serious attempt to say something new with it.

agree, this is the main thing that pushed me off of most vtubing communities
i definitely have rose-tinted view of the time but i was there during the early scene from ai-chan's first video to the skit and edited videos of four heavenly kings era, it used to be that you could just watch a handful of videos subtitled by the community to catch up on things and pretty much everyone knew everyone, luna and akari and ai and siro collabed with eachother etc
and there wasn't much of a standart of what a vtuber should do
then community subtitle died and the scene got bigger, even back in 2019 it felt oversaturated and even more so now, then streaming became the main meta (at least on youtube)
now i just watch a handful of old veterans that are still around through clips or some that still do scripted/edited videos and a few vsingers here and there
the label "vtuber" doesnt seem to matter much anymore, all the utaites are vtubers, your vocaloid procuders are vtubers, some personalities are blurring the line, it became as ubiquitous as an anime profile picture, a means to be perceived online and not just a specific genre of content creator anymore and maybe thats for the better

I really like her backstory of being a test subject hamster who became human and is still experimented on. Kind of plays on the relationship between performer and audience.
I largely agree with Mofu. As an artist, a lot of Vtuber designs fall into the same visual aesthetic that I can't really identify beyond "VR Chat Moe"
That and most companies have an explicit directive to only appeal to male fans, hence some of the rules surrounding co-ed collabs and making jokes about yuri.

"Everyone is a Vtuber" is such a succinct description of the current era. I'd love to see streams that verge on performance art like radio plays, book readings, interactive stories, etc. Just anything other than Zatsudans and Let's Plays
focus on interactive stories and lores and roleplaying...
if only natori sana didnt become addicted to blue archive
and also merry milk from dotlive, i was told she was really good and into interactive storytelling, even with her graduation stream but i wasn't there very much (i just heard it from others, but watching the archive, it is very good and creative for a graduation stream go check it out)
