my critical character flaw is I like fantasy art but also want it to be actual fantasy [or sci fantasy idm the exact aesthetics]
by which i mean, non-isekai non-irony-poisoned shows that are not so fundamentally insecure about their premise as to be unwatchable
vaguely preferred if late 80s-00s maybe early 10s because i think the five trillion episodes simply serves the premise of a fantasy adventure the best and also helps the writers not take every episode Deathly Seriously all the time but if a newer show is good then its good yknow
but please intended for teens and above age rating wise squeaky clean kids shows that cant show violence make me really depressed

i have actually just a really, really long time ago!
i do not normally fuck with the video game ones[it can feel really flattening to the setting to me] but maybe i should check out more .hack stuff since that one was so much more willing to Actually Commit to the video game scifi bit
and funnily enough both adaptations of lodoss war are on my actual literal 'doing homework for projects' list, but id be curious to know which one people like better!
Shorter series but I recently watched Outlaw Star and Kino's Journey (2003 TV show)
Outlaw Star is in the sci fantasy category but features magic, mysticism and unique species. In terms of tone and narrative, close to Cowboy Bebop except there's less meandering and leans into its humor heavily. A pulp series with desirable aesthetics. Bounty hunter Gene Starwind overcomes his fear of space and forms a crew to make it big.
Kino's Journey is on the lower end of sci fantasy but features robots, automation and spirits. Heavily introspective and understated, as Kino wanders through various countries only for the sake of traveling itself, their motorbike Hermes being the only other consistent character. A story about stories, text and the nebulousness of telling them.
spice and wolf
its a pretty grounded fantasy so it might not be exactly what you're looking for but it features medieval ish folklore style supernatural elements, the whole two seasons of original series is a big road movie with a very charming pair with great chemistry, its a very fun watch

Lately I've really liked Witch Hat Atelier, and I've been recommended Frieren: Beyond Journey's End endlessly. Made in Abyss is great too if you can stomach it.
Land of the Lustrous is one of my all time favorites, though I'm not confident it counts as fantasy?
as for older stuff I can vouch for Spice and Wolf being peak, I remember Tsubasa RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE being fantasy-esque too. Knight's & Magic is a fantasy take on Mecha I remember being charming.
