wanted to start a read thread that isn't focused on academic topics.

ive been reading Crash by J.G. Ballard, im a huge fan of the 1996 Cronenberg film adaptation, im about half-way through and so far the book is very much living up to expectations. after looking for similar movies i couldn't find anything that lived up to the eroticism and portrayal of bdsm dynamics, so im glad the book had ended up being very similar in that regard.

cover is spoilered for bare titties

Cronenberg's own book Consumed is also a great read. death, disease, cannibalism, peyronies...

my most recent attempted read was Aron Beauregard's Playground but once it pivoted from familial trauma to saw traps i got bored really fast

We don't read terribly often, mostly on-and-off, but but been enjoying Absolution by Jeff Vandermeer. We got a signed copy of it when it came out a couple years and only recently finished our reread of the preceding 3 books. We love the series a lot.

Really liking it so far. The first section of it is such a morbid creeping slow-burn nightmare. The imagery of (spoilers) a horde of rabbits feasting together on crabs and the blackened flesh of their burnt-alive brethren was really good and horrible.
