ive been playing a lot of void stranger. pic is bee. its such an enigmatic game i cant put it down...
sokoban abt rescuing your daughter from dante's inferno and losing yourself in the process. the girls in there are all super stacked.. the predominant feeling i had playing was its kind of incredible tht this was made by two men. def earned a spot in my hall of fame.

i still havent seen any lynch... i was thinking abt making twin peaks my first for a long time. but i keep finding other things to watch somehow
i recently watched mizoguchi's genroku chushingura/the 47 ronin, which blew me away. it was produced under pressure from the japanese government ostensibly as wartime propaganda in 1941/1942, but i've never seen a movie that goes to such lengths to prevent any sort of catharsis or uplift. an emotional black hole where the only guiding principle is camera movement and the arrangement of supplicant, agonized human bodies in and around architecture. i've been playing with an idea for a piece of writing arguing for the "atonality" of mizoguchi's mise en scène, inspired by tag gallagher's analysis of his cutting (pic is one of his diagrams) and jacques rivette's comparison in his journals of mizoguchi (and others) to serialist composers.
besides that, i started replaying the persona 2 duology on psx with my gf, who has never played either of them. innocent sin is notably lighter in tone and less refined and challenging in design than its followup eternal punishment, but i'm really enjoying it all the same, especially on a CRT. these games are old and clunky and full of charm and detail and atmosphere and just miles better than any subsequent games in the subseries. i <3 maya amano forever and ever amen, let's think positive!
reading ubik by philip k. dick, boatloads of fun. fucks wit ur time/reality perception heavy.
other than that been gettin thru som akira kurosawa flicks, man is a bonafide artiste. the camera is his paintbrush.

ubik is awesome, such a great concept that he totally abandons like two thirds of the way through the book just to start torturing the protag on an individual level
